Corruption In Montenegro's avatar

While it’s interesting to see the focus on the mega-rich and foreign investments in Montenegro, let’s not forget about the other 99.7% of Montenegrins who are struggling to get by. The stark contrast between wealth and the everyday reality of many citizens is alarming.

A significant part of the problem lies in the grocery sector, where a couple of dominant chains seem to be engaged in price-fixing. This collusion, along with government officials who appear to be turning a blind eye, is driving up food prices and making it increasingly difficult for families to afford healthy, quality options.

The situation has been exacerbated by the blocking of discount retailers like LIDL from entering the market. If LIDL were allowed to operate here, it could introduce much-needed competition and lower prices, benefiting countless Montenegrins. Instead, we’re left with a system that favors the wealthy few, while the majority struggle to make ends meet.

As Montenegro moves toward becoming a hub for cryptocurrency and foreign investment, we must ensure that economic growth translates into real benefits for everyone—not just the elite. Addressing these issues should be a priority if we want to build a more equitable future for all Montenegrins.
